  • My name is Eva Lombardi. I am a white, Italian, middle class, able bodied, heterosexual, Catholic, 27 year old, female, who is also, a daughter, sister, niece, friend and girlfriend. I am a daughter of Italian immigrants who came to Canada with their families at a very young age. My grandparents making the decision to come to Canada, provided my parents with opportunities to cultivate success which in turn provided me with wonderful opportunities, such as becoming an educator. The identities that I resonate with most are: being a female, being Italian, being a daughter, sister, niece, friend and girlfriend.

  • As a female I have always felt empowered and supported by those around me to strive for great things. My Italian roots and descent have instilled the importance of tradition, family values, and love in my life, emphasizing the strong connection I have to the identities of daughter, sister, niece, friend, and girlfriend. For the most part, my intersectionality has resulted in my experience throughout the education system as a positive one, which led to my passion of becoming an educator.
  • I'm so excited for the first day of school!

  • I recognize that my intersectionality directly impacts my positionality and puts me in the position to be an educator who fosters a classroom, learning commons, and library environment that is a “Brave Space” for students to “Engage in uncomfortable conversations in order to learn to do better” (Meeks, 2017, p. 1). In the spaces that I cultivate, I am aware that “Accountability is essential to brave spaces, including: accepting responsibility for one’s actions and the repercussions, willingness to name and challenge oppressive ideas, and recognizing how one’s identity (and privilege) impacts group dynamics” (Meeks, 2017, p. 1). I recognize the privilege I have when it comes to making the space to have difficult conversations. My goal as an educator and librarian is to have these challenging conversations because I acknowledge that they could result in wonderful experiences of learning and growing, for both educators and students.
