The Hungarian police were searching houses and forcing Jews to stand in the streets in the hot weather, with hardly any water. This was the start of the end, nobody knew what lied ahead of them.
When Elie and his dad were seeing the camp they were scarred with the sight of children getting thrown into a fire, burning alive. Elie fighting hte urge to say something or try to stop them from killing them children.
During the time of this the Jewish prisoners had to watch three people get hanged two of them are adults and the other one is a child. The adult choked to death quickly while the child hung there slowly dying.

Elie knows how sick his dad is and that he is gonna die soon and a doctor tells him that he is wasting his bread and soup portions on him as he was to die soon. Elie and his dad go to bed and when Elie wakes up his dad is gone and has been replaced with another sick person, he was brought to the crematorium. Elie was sad because no prays were said, no candles were lit and he was in pain but did not have the strength to weep. Elie knew that his dad was calling his name in the night but he ingored his fathers calls.
