- The main theme in The monsters are due on maple street by Rod Serling is Mankind is its worst enemy.First, I believe that this theme is accurate because on pages 77,80, and 81 less good man says "You all are sick you know that, you don't know what you are starting". This relates to the theme because it show that the people are the real enemies when the are all turning on each other for no reason.Next they are all mad at each other so, charlie becomes impulsive and shoots Pete van horn. This relates to the theme because it shows that when people are fighting they can do or say things they regret.Lastly, in the end it shows the aliens talking to each other about how there will be many more towns like maple street. In which they are referring to the fact that they are all fighting.This proves that even from another point of view you can see that mankind is it's own enemy. In conclusion, the theme Manknd is its worst enemy is the best theme to describe the story
