Pedigree TherapyMedical or genetic family history documents the biological relationships and medical histories of a patient and his or her relatives across more than one generation. When these relationships and health information appears in a diagram with standard symbols and terminology, it is called a pedigree (Bennett et al., 2008; Rich et al., 2004). Pedigrees are the preferred way to organize health information and serve as a visual method to recognize patterns of inheritance and potentially shared environmental risk factors; interpretation of a pedigree can help identify individuals who may be at increased risk for various health problems. Knowledge of a patient’s family history has long been recognized as beneficial for the diagnosis and treatment of relatively uncommon single-gene disorders such as cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome, and other disorders inherited in classical Mendelian patterns (Guttmacher et al., 2004). More recently, family history has been shown to be a major risk factor for more common chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, several cancers, osteoporosis, and asthma (Guttmacher et al., 2004; Yoon et al., 2002). Collection and interpretation of family history is increasingly becoming the standard of care in general practice. In addition to professional genetic societies, many other professional societies -- the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, and multiple nursing organizations -- advocate the use of family history as an important screening tool and recommend that their members have the knowledge and skills to gather and interpret family history information
Cystic FibrosisCystic fibrosis is an inherited condition that causes sticky mucus in the lungs and digestive system. This causes lung infections and problems with digesting food. Symptoms usually start in early childhood and vary from child to child, but the condition worsens over time. Treatments are available to help reduce the problems caused by the disease and make it easier to live with, but sadly life expectancy is shortened. The build-up of sticky mucus in the lungs can cause breathing problems and increases the risk of lung infections. Over time, the lungs may stop working properly. Mucus also clogs the pancreas which stops enzymes from reaching the gut and helping with digestion. This means that people with cystic fibrosis don't absorb nutrients from food properly and could suffer from malnutrition. Symptoms of cystic fibrosis include recurring chest infections coughing, shortness of breath, damage to the airways (bronchiectasis), growing yellowing of the skin, and the whites of the eyes (jaundice). To be born with cystic fibrosis, a child has to inherit a copy of the faulty gene from both of their parents. This can happen if the parents are "carriers" of the faulty gene, which means they don't have cystic fibrosis themselves. It's estimated around 1 in every 25 people in the UK are carriers of cystic fibrosis. If both parents are carriers, there's a 1 in 4 chance their child won't inherit any faulty genes and won't have cystic fibrosis or be able to pass it on. There is a 1 in 2 chance their child will inherit a faulty gene from one parent and be a carrier. And a 1 in 4 chance their child will inherit the faulty gene from both parents and have cystic fibrosis If one parent has cystic fibrosis and the other is a carrier, there's a: 1 in 2 chance their child will be a carrier 1 in 2 chance their child will have cystic fibrosis
Not to worry, with proper treatment, patients with cystic fibrosis can live normally. They can live long like Marlene Pryson, the oldest person with cystic fibrosis. She dedicated many years of service to helping CF families as a clinic coordinator and family liaison.
Oh dear... So what can we do about it?
According to previously the pedigree chart, your son is a carrier of cystic fibrosis. It was inherited from his father. Cystic fibrosis is a condition where increased mucus build up can block airways in the lungs.
Genesis 8:12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but it did not return to him anymore.
Genesis 8:21 When the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, he told himself, “I will never again curse the land because of human beings—even though human inclinations remain evil from youth—nor will I destroy every living being ever again, as I’ve done.
