Annie Johnson Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a book about a young girl who lived through Yellow Fever. My favorite scene is when Grandfather dies. Once Mattie was cured of the fever, they went home. When they got home, the house was destroyed by past robbers. During this time, it was hard for Mattie and her Grandfather to live because of the food shortage. Their garden was a wreck, there was nothing left for them to survive on, and they were very exhausted. Later that night Mattie got tired and went to bed in the main room. After Mattie went to bed, robbers broke in and started messing with Grandfather's sword. The sword swung around and got too close to Mattie so she screamed. She ran out of the house but the guy caught her and tied her to a chair in the house. After Mattie screamed, Grandfather woke up with a gun in his hand and started counting to 3. He fired his gun at the man but the man dodged the bullet and started punching and beating up Grandfather. Eventually, Grandfather died and Mattie was heartbroken. This is an important scene because Mattie will have to live on her own and Grandfather was a big part of the story.
