Elisha has also been taught by his faith to be kind to "beggars" because of the possibility of them being "the angel of death".
"i'm not form around here"
"are you a stranger"
After Elijah made continuous of attempts to show the beggar kindness by offering food a place to stay etc he continued to deny his offers. The boy then claimed it was time for him to go home and the beggar walked him to his house.
the beggar asked Elisha if he was afraid of the dark he said yes the beggar tried to tell him that there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark. Once they arrived in front of Elisha's house the beggar was going to teach him how to "distinguish night from the day".
"goodbye"
"always look at your window, if you see a face then you know that it is night".
...
1. This reveals that Elisha's internal conflict is that he has never experienced death before and by seeing his own reflection he will soon know what death actually is.2. This foreshadows how Elisha will eventually see his metaphoric death since the only people so far who he has seen were dead.
Ever since the beggar's words of advice Elisha has been going to his window every night to see many different faces such as his "father's face". Then one night when he went to go check on the faces again he saw his own face which left him in shock because the only faces he has seen so far are those who are dead.
