- A Syrian trader visits Rome and sees Constance, the emperor's daughter. When he returns to Syria, he tells the Sultan about her, and he wants to marry her. Constance is Christian and the Sultan is Muslim, so that he converts to Christianity to marry Constance.
- Climax
- Once Constance arrives at Syria, the mother of the Sultan holds a feast and kills all of Constance's companions including her son because she angered to her son's who abandoned his Muslim faith
- Falling Action
- Constance crashes on Northunderland, and is found by a warden who lets her live in the castle. Constance is framed for a murder she never committed and is sent to King Alla, who was also a Muslim, but converted to a Christian after seeing a miracle.
- Resolution
- Alla and Constance get married, and while he is at war, Constance has a son. Alla's mother changes letters sent between the couple. Constance and her son get thrown out of the castle. King Alla kills his mother when he finds out.
- Constance's father sends Roman Christians to Syria. On the way back to Rome, they find Constance and take her, but nobody knows her identity. Alla goes to Rome to repent for killing his mother. Here, he finds Mauricius, his son, and reunites with Constance.
- Constance tells her father her true identity and everyone is glad to have her back. Alla, Constance, and Mauricius move to England, but Alla dies one year later. Constance once again, moves back to Rome.
