  • The First Punic War was a Naval battle. A Naval battle means it happens on the sea or the ocean.
  • The Romans had a less advantage because attacking over the sea was Carthage’s specialty. Rome had one huge advantage because a Corvus or a Roman naval boarding device. The Romans won the First Punic War.
  • The Second Punic war started in 218 B.C and ended in 201 B.C. Carthage lost Sicily and moved onto Spain because of its richies. Carthage sent one of its best generals Hannibal to attack Rome. Carthage also sent 46,000 men and 37 elephants. They crossed the Alps to get to Italy.
  • By the time Carthage and their army got there, most of their elephants froze to death, and mountain tribes killed half of Carthage’s army. Some elephants (and what’s left of the army) reached Italy.
  • Hannibal defeated the Romans, in response, the Romans raided the country. After a couple of years, Scipio the leader of Rome; captured Spain and attacked the city of Carthage. Carthage was forced to pay Rome a large amount of money. Rome took over Spain and won the Second Punic war.
  • The Third Punic war started when Rome still mthought Carthage was a threat. They destroyed all of Carthage’s crops with salt and enslaved whoever still lived in Carthage.
