- John Proctor: I labor the earth from dawn of day to blink of night, and I tell you true, when look to heaven and see my money glaring at his elbows - it hurt my prayer, sir, it hurt my prayer.

- John Proctor. "Aye. boys."
- Setting the scene: Reverend Hale is in the Proctors household talking to Elizabeth and John about how Elizabeth is accused of witchcraft. Hale is questioning that the Proctors worship God and tells them that their house is not a church. John mentions that they can worship God without golden candlesticks up on the altar.
- “I never knew it before. I never knew anything before…and all at once I remembered everything she done to me!”

I can infer that John has a grudge against Parris and doesnt approve of his teachings and the way he worships God. Also, shows that Proctor has a tendency to blame other people for his wrongdoings.

- Setting the scene: Mary Warren comes to the Proctors household and explains that she was at the court. She tells them that Goody Osburn is going to be hanged and that Sarah Good will be put in jail because she confessed. She tells the Proctors that Sarah Good sent her spirit out and tried to choke her.
