The father sees corn as survival and tradition. Sharing it is a big decision because it could bring trade, but also risk losing control of his land and culture. As the daughter, she feels proud of helping to grow the corn and teaching others, but she is also unsure because she notices outsiders becoming more powerful after learning from them.
