Testo Storyboard

  • As Stella describes Kennedy as a newborn she says, "The newborn in her arms was perfect: milky skin, wavy blonde hair, and eyes so blue they looked violet"(Bennett 151). This quote tells the reader Kennedy's characteristics and how she has all the features that a white person would have.
  • As Stella discusses why she is disappointed about Kennedy's education, she thinks, "Only a lazy girl would get caught, and her daughter was clever but lazy, blissfully unaware of how hard her mother worked to maintain the lie that was her life"(Bennett 226). This quote shows the reader how entitled and care-free Kennedy is. Kennedy is a person that feels everything she wants should be given to her.
  • When Kennedy is a child, she asks Stella, "Where are you from, Mommy?"(Bennett 151). Throughout the book Kennedy tries to figure out her mother's past and wants to learn more about her family and where she is from.
  • How does the character look?
  • As Jude explains why she stayed after the play she says, "...Kennedy jogged out beside her. So of course she'd stayed. She felt desperate around her"(Bennett 239). This quote examines the effect that Kennedy has on Jude specifically. Most people that know Kennedy do not want to be around her, but Jude is unable to keep from Kennedy because she wants to know more about her and her family.
  • What kind of person are they?
  • As Kennedy talks to Jude she says, "I've just always loved the stage. Everyone watching you. Sort of thrilling, isn't it?"(Bennett 242). Kennedy points out her love for being on stage. This corresponds with her personality because she loves being the center of attention and having everyone praise her.
  • What are some key things they say?
  • After Jude tells Kennedy about their family, the text says, "Instead, she seemed to mull over her claims, sometimes considering them, sometimes rejecting them, and Stella never knew where she would land"(Bennett 259). This quote demonstrates how Kennedy constantly thinks about what Jude told her and battles to decide if she should believe the claims.
