Pineda was the first European to observe the Texas Coast. He was also first to map the Texas Coast.
Cabeza de Vaca 1526-1536
Cabeza de Vaca and his men shipwrecked on Galveston Island. The Gulf Culture gave him a home and food. In 1536, Cabeza de Vaca returned, telling stories of his journey and the gold city.
Coronado 1540
I am Coronado, and in 1540 me and 1000 men went to search for the city of gold. Sadly, we did not discover the gold city, but we discovered the Grand Canyon, Palo Duro Canyon, and Pacific Ocean! However, Spain is not interested.
La Salle 1685
La Salle was a French explorer who arrived in Texas in 1685. He wanted to establish a colony at the mouth of Mississippi River, but instead landed at the Matagorda Bay in Texas. He and the the Karankawa tribe did not get along, and when La Salle was away, the Karankawa destroyed the fort La Salle had built. In 1687, La Salle was killed by his own men and only 7 people were left alive. Spain then wanted Texas.
I would like to explore the Coast of Texas and discover the tribes that lived there and what life was like there. It would be cool to explore the area and learn new things from there.
