  • Most slaves would work in fields and farm. Slaves were treated horrendously if they did not do their work correctly or not understand what to do. Slaves would farm vegetables and  plant flowers and many more. Slaves would have to work in the hot sun or cold everyday with small amounts of food, water, and sleep.

  • Slave owners would take people away from their homes and enslave them. Families were split up and torn apart because slave owners would take them anywhere they wanted.

  • If slaves ever tried to run away it would be very hard for them to blend in. Also, slaves if they were found somewhere after they tried to run away, they would be whipped, tortured, and eventually killed. Slaves deserved much more than how they were being treated. Lastly, enslaved people would pretend not to understand the language that their owners would speak so that they didn't have to do work.

  • Settlers had many job choices. First, farming was the most common job for colonists in the Middle Colonies. Also, fishing in New England was very important, and offered many jobs for many who were living in that region. Next, printing was another job. Lastly, some people worked in shipyards. Women did not have as many choices, and were expected to take care of the house, and family.
  • Settlers would use resources around them. First, they would use the ocean and fish to make money and have another source of food. Next, settlers would use wood to make boats and many more. Also, settlers used soil to farm and raise crops and rice. Clearly, settlers had many resources to work with.
  • Different Colonies had different priorities. First, in Southern Colonies rice was very important and crucial. Rice made lots of money for people who farmed it and sold it. Next, in  the Middle Colonies farming was the most common job and important job with all the fertile land and climate. Also, in the New England colonies fishing was very important.
