Testo Storyboard

  • You'll have to teach 'em how to shoot.
  • That's your job. I merely bowed to the inevitable.
  • Grandma says it's bad enough he lets you all run wild, but now he's turned out an n-lover we'll never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb again.
  • I don't know what you're talking about, but you better cut it out this red hot minute!
  • I swear before God if I'll sit there and let him say somethin' about Atticus.
  • The idea of--wait'll I get my hands on that boy...
  • Come Christmastime, Uncle Jack surprises Jem and Scout with two toy rifles that Atticus asked him to bring. Atticus seems displeased with the guns but acknowledges that all kids have their phases.
  • Uncle Jack, promise me you won't tell Atticus about this. I'd ruther him think we were fightin' about somethin' else instead. Please promise...
  • At Finch's Landing, Scout beats the daylight out of cousin Francis for the same reason she jumped Cecil Jacobs.
  • Oh, Jack, you've a lot to learn. See, with Scout, she knows I know she tries. That's what makes the difference. I just hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through it without bitterness, and most of all, without catching Maycomb's usual disease. I hope they trust me enough... Jean Louise?
  • I shall never have children, Atticus. Scout gave me my first lesson this afternoon...
  • Uncle Jack says he's disappointed in Scout, but as soon as he learns her reasons, Scout's prior anger transfers to him.
  • In a surprising show of nobility and filial piety, Scout asks Uncle Jack not to let Atticus know that she fought Francis because of his case. She still can't keep her head, but she's beginning to understand Atticus' advice.
  • That evening, Scout eavesdrops on Uncle Jack and Atticus as they discuss her hot-headedness. Despite Uncle Jack keeping his promise, Atticus seems to know exactly what the fight was about. He understands Scout's motivations, he wants the children to trust him, and he doesn't want them catching bitterness of any sort from the events to come. Strangely, Atticus knows Scout is listening. It's not till much later that she realizes he wanted her to hear every word he said.
  • (Scout) Sir?
  • Go to bed.
