Back in 1841 people in Prison were not treated right, for example if they did not listen they were beaten just for minor issues.
In 1841 in Boston a girl named Doronthea Dox, agreed to teach school at a prison, what she saw would change her life forever.
She saw men locked up in chains bruised and in pain from all the torment they have suffered from officers beating them.
She realized children were charged with Adult charges, and thought about a solution to this problem she visited hundreds of prisions and now realizes that she needs to work on a solution, she also noticed debtors prisons were places where prisoners could not earn money to pay for their debts.
When she arrived home she also noticed people were beaten and noticed the only help from that was mental asylums and a hospital but the bad thing is only wealthy people could afford the care, she prepared a report for the Masachusetts state legislature.
"I come as the advocate of helpless, forgotten, insane men and woman, i procced to call your attention to the present state of insane persons, confined cages, closets, cellars, stalls, pens, chained, naked, beaten with rods and lashed to obedenince, soon enough Law makers were shocked and agreed and built a special justice system for children and banned beatings and built more asylums
