- Snow's father, dejected after his beloved wife's death, withdrew to his bedroom for hours at a time, leaving young Snow to entertain herself.
- Woe. Woe is me.
- It was a difficult adjustment, then, when her father remarried after seven years and a cruel, domineering stepmother named Linda moved in.
- I'm in charge here.
- Linda constantly insulted Snow, whether the girl was in the room or not.
- You're so ugly, you must be the spawn of Satan.
- When she first saw Snow, the girl immediately shrank away, terrified by the critical glare Snow aimed in her direction.
- Your name is Belle? Your parents named you "pretty"? Wow.
- To be fair, Snow had just come in from a long session of caring for the barn animals. She was cold, cranky, hoarse from talking to her pets, and still wearing a dark hoodie. So she looked and sounded much more terrifying than usual.
