  • Yes. Lets start here. Writing developed in Mesopotamia because of religion, trade, and government.

  • Pictographs soon became more sophisticated, combining them to represent actions.

  • These are pictographs.Sumerians used them as early as 3300 BCE. They are simple pictures representing objects.

  • Written symbols began to stand for different sounds. These sounds were combined to make words, making there own alphabet.
  • Wow, this is really interesting.

  • Pictographs then developed into cuneiform. Cuneiform is when a stylus was pressed into a substance like clay.

  • Scribes used a tool called a stylus, to write in the soft clay. The clay was 10 cm by 15cm. Writers had to work quick and carefully while the clay was still wet.
