- Welcome to Allendale HS, the first part of the journey called your life! From K-8th you have been learning on how to interact with one another as people and learning the basics of many subject areas. Now in HS you are going to learn how the world actually works--the rules of the game that all of humanity is participating in whether we want to or not!!!
- Not to be too flippant, but LIFE as we know it can be viewed as a game---but one that does not allow you to reset or play over once you have made your moves on the board. Like any game, many of the results can be determined by your actions: poor choices=low scores while better choices=high scores.
- QUESTION: What is your role in this game? ANSWER: To accept that the rules of the game are never perfect, but you MUST play the game anyway! Simple as that!! After 4 years of practice in HS, how you play this game will determine most of your life---whether you want to accept this or not!!
- Your success at Allendale HS WILL reflect a level of success (and happiness) you may experience in life! This is a scary thought if you really contemplate it. Luckily you have 4 years to practice being successful in a safe environment where everyone is trying to set you up to win the game. YOU have to start playing!
- Here are some rules of life to practice while at Allendale HS to succeed in life:1) HARD WORK---Put effort in all your course work. It matters NOW. It also acts as muscle memory---you will automatically do this in the real world.2) Meet DEADLINES---Another muscle memory situation! Practice now or else the Boss WILL fire you!3) Be a CONTRIBUTOR, not a hater---a positive attitude makes ANY situation better. Check your negative emotions at the door. 90% of failures are based on an inability to control one's emotions.4) LEARN from mistakes and ADAPT---You are going to make mistakes so try to learn from them. Accept your responsibility in the mistake, then make the changes you need to be successful. ADAPTATION can nurture success!!
- Like Earth revolving around the Sun, this your your reality for the next 4 years. Playing the game NOW will allow you to pursue your dreams and aspirations in the future. Things to Ponder: 1) Mistakes are NOT failures! Failure is when you choose to continue mistakes until no one can help you anymore, 2) No matter the TALENT, it is wasted without training. High school is THAT training.
