- Atom is the smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist.All matter is made up of atoms.Atoms consist of charged particles-protons, electrons.Atoms also consist of neutrons which are neutral.

- Neutrons: Neutrons are subatomic particles. They have no charge. They are represented by n. Their mass is 1.
- Electrons: They are subatomic particles. They are negatively charged. They are represented by e-. Their mass is 1/1840.
- Protons: They are subatomic particles. They are positively charged. They are represented by p+. Their mass is one amu.
- The nucleus is a small, dense region at the center of the atom. It consists of positive protons and neutral neutrons, so it has an overall positive charge.The nucleus is just a tiny part of the atom, but it contains virtually all of the atom’s mass.The strong nuclear force holds together protons and neutrons in the nucleus and overcomes the electric force of repulsion between protons.
