  • "Guys, please stop screaming. It's just video games and Mom and Dad are trying to work."
  • How Costa and McCrae see me
  • I love cheering on my school's sports teams with all of my friends!
  • How Bandura sees me
  • Ugh, I feel like everyone is looking at the ugly pimple on my forehead
  • Alfred Adler was a follower of Freud who contributed to the Birth Order theory. This theory said that the order in which we are born can have a significant impact on our personality. We try and feel important in our family and the order in which we are born affects how we do that. In this example, I am the middle child peacekeeper between my older and younger brother.
  • How Rogers sees me
  • I can't wait to go meditate, journal, and eat a healthy salad after this workout. I feel amazing!
  • Costa and McCrae founded the Big Five Personality Traits which describes personality in terms of five broad traits. One of those traits is extraversion. I am extraverted and enjoy being cheerful and sociable with others. I feed off of others energy and love spending time with my friends in a social setting.
  • How Freud sees me
  • Bandura is known for the Social Cognitive theory which includes the spotlight effect. The spotlight effect is the tendency to think that more people notice something about you than they do. I get nervous that everyone is looking at the imperfections on my skin, specifically the pimple on my forehead, when they actually don't even notice it.
  • How Horney sees me
  • No one will ever love me. I couldn't even get a date to Prom. I'm just going to give up.
  • Roger is attributed to the Humanistic theory which emphasizes actualizing tendency. Actualizing tendency is our tendency to develop our selves to our fullest potential in order to form a self-concept. I am working out, eating healthy, journaling, and meditating to try and become my ideal self. I am physically and mentally focusing on myself in order to grow as a person.
  • Freud as a huge component of the ego defense mechanisms. Ego defense mechanisms are distorting an impulse to a more acceptable, less threatening form. One example of a defense mechanism is regression. This is when we retreat back to behaving or thinking like a child in order to avoid adult issues. Whenever I am very stressed or sad, I sleep with my parents just like I used to when I was a child.
  • Karen Horney was a Non-Freudian who said we feel most helpless, anxious, and lost around the issue of getting enough love. We build our personalities around fighting rejection and either comply, withdrawal, or get aggressive as a way of coping. I didn't get a date to prom and feel helpless about ever finding love. As a result, I withdrawal and distance myself from people.
