Creating a postcard is a great way to highlight important sites and tourist spots in a country! In this activity, students will create a postcard, including an image of the site and a description about the site. Students should be creative, incorporating things like the country's flag or other important symbols, and looking up the cost of a stamp in that country! They can also upload photos or use Photos for Class to find real photographs of the location if they can't find something in the Storyboard Creator that suits their needs. Teachers can assign students various locations within a country, or encourage students to choose their own to increase engagement. Postcards can be printed, laminated, and hung around the classroom, or "delivered" for students to admire and learn more about countries from around the world!

Due Date:
Objective: Create a postcard for an important place to visit within your country.
Student Instructions:
Connect your students with peers from other regions or countries by setting up a postcard exchange project. This real-world activity helps students practice research and writing while learning about new cultures firsthand.
Reach out to other teachers through educator forums, social media groups, or international classroom exchange sites. Select partners based on grade level, curriculum goals, or geographic diversity for the most meaningful exchanges.
Establish expectations for postcard content, due dates, and mailing logistics. Post instructions in your classroom, and provide a checklist to keep students organized and on track.
Gather student postcards, check them for accuracy, and mail them together. Discuss proper addressing, postage, and international mailing tips to teach practical skills.
Display incoming postcards around your classroom or on a world map. Encourage students to share what they learned and compare cultural similarities and differences.
A historic location postcard activity is a creative classroom project where students research an important site in a country, design a postcard featuring images and information about the place, and include elements like a flag or stamp to represent the country’s culture.
Teachers can assign students different countries or sites, then have them create postcards that showcase key facts, images, and cultural symbols. This hands-on activity helps students engage with world geography by researching and sharing what makes each location unique.
Encourage students to incorporate flags, stamps, or personal photos, use collage techniques, add characters that look like themselves, or even laminate and display completed postcards around the classroom for a global showcase.
Students can use resources like Photos for Class to find free, classroom-appropriate images, or upload their own photographs if available. The Storyboard Creator tool also offers graphics to help illustrate their postcards.
The postcard’s description should be 5–8 sentences and include the site’s name, its location, why it’s important, interesting facts, and what makes it special or notable within the country.
