A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought.
Ohh, so they can't stand on their own as sentences??
EXACTLY. So for example:Because it was raining… What happened as a result of it being raining?

EXACTLY. These clauses cannot stand on their own. Now another thing to remember is that they are called subordinate clauses.
So do they normally begin with subordinating conjunctions?
Because, If, After, Before, and some others.
Who said you weren't paying attention? Yes so anytime you see these words, they go together with dependent clauses.
