- I don't understand...
- Ancient Rome ran by a rebublic, like our government today. Many ideas from our government originated in Rome.
- The government of Rome was controlled by three main branches. The first of these branches was the senate. This branch was controlled by patrichians, noble men who were wealthy. The senate conrtrolled how Rome behaved to it's neighbors and how money was spent.
- The second branch was the Assenbly, they were made up of representatives elected by Plabeians, normal people. The Assemly protected the rights of the plabeians. The Plabeians had to trust the assembly would give them fair laws, wich didn't always happen.
- In 494 B.C the Plabieans revoulted and set up camp outside the Roman walls. To end the revoult, the patricians let the plabieans form the Assembly and posted fair laws on 12 tablets that were displayed in the center of the city.
- The third branch of the governmnt was made up of 2 consoles that served for a year. They were made up of judges and miliatary leaders, Their could oreder arrests, propose new laws, and nominate dictators.
- A man named Julias Caser came along and took contol over the governmnet while abusing his power. A while later, a group of senators revolted and ordered his exacution. Chaos sprung after that and the Roman republic ended.
