In the world of data sharing, two sets of principles guide how we manage information: FAIR and CARE.
I agree, it ensures data can be discovered and used efficiently by anyone.
FAIR helps make data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
Slidkalniņš: 2
The FAIR Principles focus on data quality and usability.
“Findable means data should be easy to locate with clear identifiers.”
Dataset found: Clear ID and metadata available.
Slidkalniņš: 3
And Accessible means people can get the data, even if some parts are restricted.
Some files open. Others need permission to view.

Data also involves people , especially Indigenous and local communities.
They remind us that data isn’t just about access — it’s about respect and fairness.
That’s where the CARE Principles come in: Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics.

FAIR= Data is usable CARE=Data is respectfulFAIR + CARE = Responsible Data Sharing
FAIR and CARE complement each other — together, they make data both useful and just.
And CARE focuses on people’s rights and context.
FAIR focuses on data usability.
