Before Washington could even take command of the toops and another battle broke out. Taking high ground doesn't always ensure victory. At bunker hill the Americans held their ground until they ran out of ammunition.

Continental Army defeated British--they retreated to New York. They battled in New Jersey.This situation did not change until the next year when the Continental Congress drafted and adopted the Articles of Confederation in 1777.
