The French Revolution was a time in history that will be remembered as one of the most corrupt times. In 1778, the people of France were separated by the Three Estates. The first Estate consisted of church leaders that were not expected to pay taxes.
Queen Marie Antoinette
The second Estate was all of the nobility. The richest of the rich in France. They also were not expected to pay taxes. and that leaves the third estate. The third estate consisted of everyone else. All of the impoverished French people that had the most taxes out of everyone
King Louis XVI

The Third Estate was not happy at all with the state of their government. Their king, King Louis XVI, was spending the people's money on lavish clothes and food that could feed thousands. King Louis XVI would not share the tax money with the French people so they would starve while him and the second estate would party.
The French were hungry, angry, and treated unfairly. Bread was getting expensive and instead of helping his people, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette had the power to change their spending habits, but instead, they ignored and neglected their people. This lead to his execution

During this time, in America, the colonists were fighting for their independence from britain. This gave the french commonfolk more confidence to carry out with the revolution.

Enlightenment thinkers like Voltaire, Rousseau, and Montesquieu had new ideas. They said all people should have freedom and equality. The Philosophers where the most educated in the third estate, and they wanted change.
