- In the story "The Necklace" the main character Madame Loisel borrows a diamond necklace from a friend to wear to a ball. She loses the necklace at the ball and has to loan money from a lot of people to buy a replacement. Madame Loisel sees her friend she borrowed the necklace from 10 years later and finds out the original necklace she borowwed was a fake.
- The Possibility of Evil
- In the story "The Cask of Amontillado" the main character Montresor seeks revenge on Fortunato. Montresor lures Fortunato into a wine cellar and plasters him into a wall to kill him.
- Lamb to the Slaughter
- In the short story "The Lottery" a small town was doing a lottery and a villager, Mr. Hutchingson, won. Mr. Hutchingson's wife Tessie protests the lottery and says it was not fair, at the end all the villagers gathered and threw stones at Tessie.
- The Most Dangerous Game
- In the story "A Possibility of Evil" the main character is Miss Strangeworth, who we learn is very judgmental and sends mean-spirited letters through the mail to people she think are bad. She dropped one of those letters one day and the receiver of the letter ruined Miss Strangeworth's roses.
- NOT MY ROSES
- In the story "Lamb to the Slaughter" the main character Mary Maloney kills her husband with a leg of lamb after he says he is leaving her. She invites the police to stay for dinner after they investigate which is when they figure out what really happened.
- In the story "The Most Dangerous Game" the main character Rainsford has washed ashore a island where the owner, General Zaroff, hunts humans. Rainsford hides and sets traps but they do not work, at the end the two men dual and Rainsford wins the fight.
