1. Okay, so today we will be dividing up Africa.
2. I want to have Angola and Mozambique
3. Hmmmmm...
The Berlin Conference was called by Otto von Bismarck of Germany, and was attended by 15 different nations. The purpose of the conference was to divide up Africa to try to avoid war in Europe, not realizing how much it affected the Africans. This affected the Africans because they were forced to work for their rulers who made their natural resources plunge quickly.

(1900's) Modernization of Africa
Be careful hun.
Mommy, look!!!
Africa changed dramatically the last 25 years of the 1800's because the continent was taken from its own people. In 1875, 10% of Africa was under European control, but by 1900 nearly all of the continent was under European control. Although almost all of Africa was under European powers, it also helped with modernizing it (ex. railroads, roads, schools).
