This was a retreat by the Chinese communist Army. Although many soldiers died, it helped Communist survive and strengthen their leadership.

Japan invaded China in 1937 starting the 2nd Sini-Japanese War. Chinese Nationalists and Communists both fought against Japanese, despite their inner conflicts.
