Narrator:The South's economy was heavily reliant on  farming cotton and tobacco.  Both cotton and tobacco are labor intensive crops to harvest so the south used slaves to harvest them.
 I know, most of the tobacco farms switched to cotton (the cash crop of the South) and need more slaves for the labor intensive work of growing cotton
Every since the cotton gin there have been more slaves  then before.
Social
I am a Planter, I have over 20 slaves and I have a big social and political life.
Narrator: Besides Planters there are Three other social classes. those include small farmer, poor farmers, and slaves.
We are the bottom of the social class.
Yeah we hold no rights or freedoms.
Geography
Narrator:The South had fertile soil, warm climate and a long growing season.  This made the South rely on farming.
I am so glad I bought all this fertile land in the South.
We should grow cotton I heard it is a cash crop down here in the south.
Political
I am a small farmer and a landowner, I am involved in a few political issues.
Me and other planters dominate political life and I am involved in lots of political issues.
