Mansa Musa goes on a pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca. His caravan consists of 80,000 people and animals (including camels, soldiers, and slaves).
The Sultan of Cairo (Egypt) demands that Mansa Musa appear before him. Mansa Musa is concerned about the delay but agrees.
Both leaders expect the other to kneel. Mansa Musa feels that he is more rich and powerful than the sultan.
