  • Hello everyone, I am Neville.
  • Hola!I'm Sonia.
  • I am Aleisha.
  • And I'm Rushane.
  • Hey guys, I recently watched a video on comorbidity. I wanted to learn more on the topic so I went and conducted further research. I also shared this information with Sonia.
  • Oh wow! Can you tell us a bit more about this? First and foremost, explain to us what comorbidity is please?
  • Yes guys, I can tell you what comorbidity is. Comorbidity, according to Christiansen (2021), is the presence of two or more co-occurring or simultaneous conditions that are often long term. This is most frequent with anxiety disorders, specific phobias, conduct disorders and substance abuse, but it is also associated with diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

  • Let me have a seat for this! I read somewhere that the three most prominent causes of bipolar disorders are genetics, extreme stress and biological differences. Oh, I remember where now, it was the DSM-V (2013) that I read.
  •
  • I did not hear you mention anything about bipolar disorders. I would like shift our focus a bit to it. I would like to know the three causes of bipolar disorders, does anyone know?
  •
  • Could you explain a bit more for me please? I don't understand.
  • Sure! So for bipolar disorders and genetics, the DSM-V highlights that it is a family history of disorder that is traced through the bloodline (APA, 2013). One other risk factor is extreme stress which occurs when there is a high level of stress and a person is not able to overcome it. This includes grief such as the loss of a loved one or any other traumatic event.
