This is a nebula, it's made up of things like plasma, dust, and various gasses.

A protostar is very young and this phase only lasts about 500,000 years, yeah I know only 500,000.
Inside Nebulae dust and gas particles clump together due to gravity and get bigger and bigger forming me, a protostar.This process is called accretion.
