- Not so long ago, on a bright, sunny afternoon, Nya, a tall 11 year old girl living in Sudan could feel the sun beating down on her back causing her to sweat. Her thirst for water was almost unbearable. Every day she took a trip to get water for her family, and this usually took all day so she gets ready to walk in the early afternoon. Most people describe her as a sweet and thoughtful girl. The path to get to the water is very hard to travel on because most days it is hot and she burns her feet since they don't have slippers in Sudan. Nya an also steps on thorns that hurt her feet and make it much harder to walk to get water. Ouch! “Nya is jabbed in the foot by a thorn.”

- The next day, Nya gets up to get ready to take her walk for water, but while she was walking a thorn got stuck in her foot. As she reached the pond the pain got worse and when she finally got there, she sat down to rest. She saw all the life there, there were little girls and boys playing as well as mothers, birds, and herds of cattle. “She unitedit, scooped up the brown muddy water, and drank it.” Then one day Nya’s little sister Akeer got sick from drinking the contaminated water and the doctor was very far away so they didn’t know what to do. “Nya’s uncle, the chief of their village, knew of a medical clinic a few days walk away.” They were not sure if Akeer would be able to walk there.

- After Nya’s uncle told her that she could take her sister Akeer to the medical clinic outside the village, that is what she did. Unfortunately, she was still very scared for her sister even after she saw the doctor at the medical clinic. Finally the doctor told Nya that Akeer got better! Years later a man named Salva came to build them a well for fresh and clean water, so no one would get sick from drinking the contaminated river water ever again. The End!
