It was a beautiful morning in a small and poor town. Kino, Juana, and Coyotito woke up, and started doing their chores.
Falling Action
Kino and Juana were out searching for enough pearls to pay the doctor to heal their child Coyotito after a scorpion stung him. While he was searching he found the greatest pearl, this pearl was the biggest pearl Kino and Juana have ever seen
Resolution
Juana was running away with the pearl and Coyotito to throw the cursed pearl into the water. Kino surprised her and slapped her, but they were ambushed by some thieves who wrecked their canoe. Kino took out his knife and killed one of them
Theme
When Kino was trying to ambush the trackers. Coyotito started crying, the trackers heard the crying and thought it was a coyote so they shot towards that direction and killed Coyotito. Kino attacked them, scared them off, and took their rifle.
Kino finally admitted that the pearl was a curse, so Juana and Kino went to the ocean they found it in, and threw it away.
The theme of this story is that greed can over take you, and change you. This is clearly shown because in the beginning of the story Kino loved his wife, but when she wanted to throw away the pearl Kino slapped her and injured her. This story is trying to show you that you have to control your greed, because it can change your life.
