In the beginning, we get to learn about Beatrice and we know she is in the Abnegation faction. Once Beatrice turned 16, she takes a important aptitude test which shows which faction she is best suited for. The test has many outcomes based on what you choose which determine your most suitable quality's such as intelligence, selflessness, and bravery. In this test Beatrice's results indicate that she is "Divergent" meaning that she fits in more than one faction.

Beatrice and her brother Caleb forward on had to addend the choosing ceremony where all 16 year olds have to pick the faction they want to live in for the rest of their lifes. Beatrice is very nervous and afraid to choose. We end up finding out that her "Perfect" Abnegation brother ends up choosing erudite and Beatrice makes her final decision to become a part of Dauntless.

After the ceremony, Beatrice chooses to join dauntless, which is the faction known for being fearless and brave. As she arrives, she is faced with challenges along with other 16 year olds who also choosed dauntless. She meets new people and faces tests. One having to jump off on to a train. This is where the beginning of her new journey starts.
