- The Californios were under Spanish control for many years before the United States discovered California. When the Mexican vs United States war happened, the U.S captured California and kept it.

- During the war against the U.S and Mexico... Californios fought as soldiers for Mexico. The Mexican Government rewarded soldiers and settlers in California with land in San Francisco and San Diego. This meant that Californios had to travel to these areas.

- The Californios had many hardships. One of them was Californios and Indians passing away from disease. These diseases were brought to newcomers traveling to California.
- One legacy the Californios had was them introducing many crops to California. They introduced... grapes, olives, and citrus fruits.

- Once the U.S owned California they opened up homes for so many people. Californios had new homes and land for farming. And, people traveled from all over the world to see California and grow it's population.
