- Prim is scared to tears over the thought of being called in the Reaping. When Katniss takes her place, she is overwhelmed. She is relieved, but scared for her sister's safety. She might even feel guilt. Fear is probably her greatest emotion.
- Haymitch is a past winner which means he has seen all of the horrors of the "games." He has had to kill other humans and his alcoholism seems to show that he thinks the games are despicable. He is numb.
- President Snow is emotionless over the "games" and the Reaping that chooses its victims. He feels it is necessary to maintain order in the Districts. He sees it also as entertainment. He is calm and collected.
