Then her husband
To having children
Irene is at stage 7 of Erikson’s theory explaining how between the ages of 40-65 (which is most probably her age right now) “Care” is the most needed aspect (the basic virtue) what is mostly looked for
Now she doesn’t believe that she could support herself. She has not yet resolved this stage because she is still contemplating divorcing her husband of 40 years, Irene such crisis because her husband only came home from work on the weekends, so they grew distant from one another
In Irene’s case she has always been taken care of since being a child and as she grew up, got married, and had kids
She tried to resolve this stage by staying involved in her kids lives and extracurricular activities.
she started to lack care and affection from her family as each one has their own life and she feels lonely especially in the age where she needs care the most. This need at that age with her being taken care of since childhood causes her to feel this emptiness.
