  • Hi Ena, I Have something to tell you. Me and my boyfriend had a fight again last night. This has been on going issue. We don't understand each other. I'm tired of this!
  • Ohh.. That's sad. Maybe because the way how you talk to each other. Let's go to Mrs. Mori ask her opinion.
  • Good morning Mrs. Mori, what can you say about couple that barely understand each other?
  • Hmm.. it's depends. Are you guys aware that there are 3 different types of messages?
  • Hmm.. 3 types of message?
  • Let's talk about it inside
  • this can help you to know how to express your thoughts and ideas. First is the Primary Message this is the intentional content of your messages. Could it be verbal or non-Verbal.
  • Next type of messages is Secondary messages this is unintentional content, both verbal and nonverbal. Your listener will form impressions of your intentional messages, both negative and positive, over which you have no control
  • Even using a short, seemingly simple and direct message could be misunderstood. Example: By saying “You can go now” or doing the hand gesture waving your back hand, even though you politely say it other people might think its disrespectful.
  • Example when your meeting your boyfriend at a restaurant he smile and wave his hand to indicate the empty chair on the other side of of the table to invite the you to sit. Which of these types of messages do you usually use? Maybe both of you need to contemplate on how you communicate to each other. Maybe that’s the reason why you always misunderstand each other.
  • There are a lots of factors that can influence your message. Like, physical attractiveness, age, gender, or ethnicity or even simple mannerisms and patterns of speech. If your boyfriend depends on this factors on how he perceive your message, maybe you have to work with it with him
  • Now the last one is Auxiliary messages, intentional and unintentional ways a primary message is communicated. This may include vocal inflection, gestures and posture, or rate of speech that influence the interpretation or perception of your message
  • Yeah, I have learned a lot, Thank you so much!
  • Thank you! Mrs. Mori, this is a big help.
