God chose Saul to be the King, but the people couldn't find him. God told them that he was hiding behind some supplies. Samuel found him and brought him to the people.
I found you!
Samuel introduced the new King and the people were very pleased. LONG LIVE THE KING! they shouted.
LONG LIVE THE KING!
Here is the King that God has chosen.
Nahash the Ammonite besieged Jabesh Gilead. He told the people that the only way he would make peace would be if he could gouge out the right eye of each person. The people had 7 days to gather an army, but no one was coming.
We will gouge out your eyes!
When Saul heard, he was very angry. He cut an oxen in half and told the messengers to show it and say This is what happens to your oxen if you do not help.. The people came and helped and they won the battle.
This will show them!
But then, in a big battle, Saul was impatient. Instead of waiting for Samuel to offer a sacrifice, he did it himself. This was disobeying the Lord. Saul's fall from grace began.
Samuel was late!
David shall be the new King!
Saul's downfall was his insistence on keeping power at all costs. He ordered his men to kill David, who he saw as a threat to his power. David went on the run, joining Saul's enemies. Eventually they cornered Saul and he killed himself.
