- Mathilde got 400 francs from her husband to buy a new dress for the party. Her husband told her to get something that would last her.
- Oh no! Where is the necklace?
- Mathilde goes to the ball in her new gown and necklace. She sees herself in a mirror and loves the way she looks. She wants to look like this all the time. She doesn't want to leave before anyone else because she is afraid of judgement.

- Mathilde and her husband worked hard to pay off the necklace they gave to Madame Forestier as a replacement just to find out hers was a fake and cost 5,000 francs at most.
