Slidkalniņš: 3
This scene foreshadows male oppression which is hinted at towards the end of the book, allowing for woman to rule Otera and once again create an empire with equality, peace, justice, and little discrimination. This scene also reflects back to the overall themes in the book of courage, hardships and resistance. As Deka and an oppressed group of Alaki and Woman stood up to the dictatorship role that men played in the society, it showed courage to take over a group that had been overruling woman and smothering their rights and power for hundreds of years. This also shows the importance of overcoming obstacles and how they shape your identity and actions, as woman especially Alaki had been tortured and hated by society, but it made them more resiliant. The emperor clearly shows discrimination as well as hatred against woman using provocative language, proving the sexism and unfair conditions towards woman. When Alaki stood up against their oppressors, it showed their resistance as even after trying to overtake their empire for hundred of years, they persisted. Even after all that the Alaki had gone through to get to where they were, they used their knowledge from their hardships, obstacles, and difficulties to overcome tyranny and create a life of peace, happiness, and freedom for all.
