To multiply a decimal by a whole number, we multiply like whole numbers ignoring the decimal point. We put decimal point in the product leaving from the right, as many decimal places as in the given decimal number.
Multiply 2.3 by 42.3 x 4 = 23/10 x 4 = 23 x 4/ 10 = 92/10= 9.2

To multiply a decimal by 10, 100, 1000, etc. We have to shift decimal point place to the right as same numbers of zeroes are there in number. For eg., Multiply by 10 shift decimal point 1 place to the right.Multiply by 100 shift decimal point 2 place to the right.
