- Theseus, which is The Duke of Athens is to be married to Hippolyta, which is The Queen of the Amazons so, he is preparing for the marriage to her.
- Egeus is angry with his daughter because she loves Lysander and want to marry him but, her father wants her to marry Demetrius instead.
- Hermia and Lysander, the two lovers run away into the forest. Hermia tells Helena about the plan and Helena tells Demetrius hoping to win him.
- Hermia and Lysander head into the woods followed by Demetrius. Demetrius is followed by his admirer Helena.
- A band of fairies live in the woods, led by King Oberon and Queen Titania.
- As well as these magical beings, there are also craftsmen (the Mechanicals) rehearsing a play for Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding.
