Femme fatale displayed in film noir shows women with economic freedom and independence overall away from men. They represent a certain danger towards men and a threat to the patriarchal system. They do not have a devotion towards men and rather are one of the reasons for the “ruin” of an average man's life. Similar to Phyllis in Double Indemnity.

This article showcases the strength of femme fatale , the dangerous, and independent woman that goes beyond her stereotype of a docile woman and dominates the man with intelligence, and power. It also goes into a deeper explanation of how film noir went against the stereotypes of women for that time frame.
The article does not discuss any of the harmfulness that the common character that is femme fatale brings to women in the genre of film noir. The fatal woman was rarely ever shown to succeed as either was killed or imprisoned.The article only shows that the dangerous woman dressing sexually, being full of dominance, and performing for the man is empowering for her character and for all women and not for the man.

Film noir often portrays male protagonists as detectives or individuals who are alienated from society. This is opposed to the “family man” archetype that male side characters have.The protagonists are often lonely, facing existential problems, have nihilistic attitudes, and are surrounded in corrupt environments by corrupt people/groups. Similar to Walter in Double Indemnity.
