  • Lakes and RiversThe Midwest has many important waterways, including the Mississippi River, the Missouri River, and the Ohio River. Before railroads, these rivers were key in moving products and goods. Four out of the five Great Lakes border the Midwest region; the Great Lakes hold 1/5 of all of the fresh water in the world!
  • The BadlandsLocated in South Dakota, the Badlands is a national park. This land is made up of clay and rocks, and has many steep hills that extend for miles. This land has little or no use to people, but is such an interesting place to visit due to its sheer size and geographical beauty.
  • Flat Land andRich SoilMuch of the Midwest is flat with very few trees, and is covered in prairie grass. This type of grass helps make the soil very fertile, contributing to the abundance of crop growth in this region.
