Unknown Story

Luke, the main character of the story, finds out that the vents in his room, which is the attic, can offer him a view of the outside world. He is very grateful for these vents because he is a Shadow Child, meaning that he is illegal (so he has to hide) because of a new law called the Population Law. The Population Law, which bans 3rd children, was put into place because the government leader thinks that there are too many people, causing scarcity of food.
Luke spots a girl in a Baron household (a Baron is a rich person, according to the government), even though the house already has 2 children. Luke sneaks over to her house by hiding behind his family's barn, and then dashing to the girl's house when no one is looking, and he only goes whenever no one is in the Baron households (except for the child) and no one is at Luke's house. The door is locked, and Luke did not think that it would be!
Luke breaks in, only to find the girl thinking that he is an intruder! She takes him down, and Luke says the word "Population Police". The girl lets go and Luke is relieved to see that she is a fellow illegal and fellow 3rd child. The girl, named Jen, shows Luke her computer, where there is a chat room where Shadow Children meet.
