  • A cornerstone of the ancient Chinese philosophies and religions of Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism, filial piety means the virtue of respect for one's parents, elders, and ancestors.
  • A network of trade routes about 4,000 miles long that connected Asia to Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa, and Southern Europe. It allowed for the exchange of goods, cultures, religions and ideas. Named after the lucrative Chinese export of silk,the Silk Road was continuously used from the2nd century BCE to the 18th century!

  • The Great Wall is a 5500 mile long wall built in stages throughout China's history to protect it from invaders. Construction began in the7th centuryBCE by the Chu State and lasted until 1878 in the Qing Dynasty. Most of what is remaining today was built during the Ming Dynasty about 600 years ago.
  • Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi was the first Emperor of Ancient China. Believing in the afterlife, Qin had over 700,000 workers create a massive tomb that included a terracotta army of 8,000 soldiers, horses and chariots. The tomb was like an entire underground city meant for Qin to rule in his afterlife.
