Special education is not a one size fits all approach. Often times teachers will have students with differing abilities in one classroom and it can make lesson planning a nightmare. Storyboards make is easy to tier one activity to make it appropriate for different students. A tiered activity is a great way to have all students do the same lesson with in their own abilities.
By tiering a lesson you can set the parameters for each student or level of students based on how you are tiering. A storyboard is a great tool to tier a lesson based on challenge level, complexity, or outcome.
Using Storyboard that to create a tiered lesson plan based on challenge level may resemble the first storyboard.
The example assignment may be something basic such as “Create a board that shows who lives in your house and label them”.
-The first storyboard is a blank slate for your proficient student.
-The middle board is the storyboard for a student who may need a little bit of help but is still somewhat proficient.
-The last storyboard is for the student who requires significant help. *Note they are still required to create their own character.
